Of the two I prefer the Cheysuli. It has several standard elements: two magical races at war with the other (aka the good guys and the bad guys), a prophecy, and a royal line destined to rule the world. But as the series progresses, the good guys don't look as unambiguously good and the bad guys have excellent reasons for opposing the prophecy. The second leading cause of trouble in the series are arranged royal marriages, and their consequences [number one being the confict between the two magical races]. And (my favorite) each book covers the next generation (except the first two books to set things up). Since each new book has a new main cast (with the surviving main cast of the previous book acting as elder statesmen) it means that *ANYTHING* (death, maiming, changing sides) can happen to the characters of the current book, both good and bad, as long as the plot advances toward the final resolution. And the end is approaching fast! Recommended. /John arpa: JWenn.ESAE@Xerox.com nothingupmysleeveprestogrowlnodoubtaboutitivegottogetmeanotherhat-ly ---------------------------------------------------------------- Jennifer Roberson The Chronicles of the Cheysuli: Shapechangers [1984] The Song of Homana [1985] Legacy of the Sword [1986] Track of the White Wolf [1987] A Pride of Princes [1988] Daughter of the Lion [1989] Sword Series: Sword-Dancer [1986] Sword-Singer [1988] Sword-Maker [scheduled 1990] Sword-Breaker [eventually]
