		 RYAN MCFARLAND CORPORATION ANNOUNCES
		  DATABASE INTERFACE FOR RM/COB0L-85


AUSTIN, TEXAS, January 23, l990--Ryan McFarland Corporation (RM~) and
Distribution Energie Informatique (DEI), a system software developer
based in Lille, France, today announced a joint technology venlure and
the planned availability of a database application enabler that will
serve as an interface between RM/COBOL-85 applications and various
industry-standard database packages, including Oracle, Ingres,
Informix and other proprietary systems. The enabler will be available
in the second quarter of 1990.

"We at RM are excited to be able to bring the benefits of advanced
database technology developed by DEI to the RM/COBOL-85 developer and
application reseller," stated John Bradley, president of Ryan
McFarland Corporation.

The database enabler communicates with the RM/COBOL-85 runtime system,
and includes various utility programs to allow database creation,
modification, duplication, and recovery. A complete environment, the
enabler allows access to a database from conventional COBOL file
statements.

The interface, which is completely transparent to the end user,
creates a variety of benefits for RM's application developer/resellers
(ADRs) and value added resellers (VARs), including the following:

   enhanced access to open system database files
   protection of existing COBOL and database applications
   easier enhancement of existing applications
   ability to add vertical market database applications to core COBOL
   applications and vice versa

construction of truly portable applications can now be applied across
the spectrum of database technology," commented Tom Morrison, RM's
manager of Marketing and Sales.

RM/COBOL-85 is the industry standard compiler and runtime system for
interactive, microcomputer-based COBOL applications.
