From: Phil.Powell@launchpad.unc.edu (Phil Powell) Subject: Soae 6/24/93 Date: 25 Jun 1993 05:15:06 GMT ** Soae ** 6/24/93 You know the rest. Ok, I still have no confirmed ride to Cornerstone and I can't take a bus there (would take wayyyy too long) or by train (soonest I could take is July 2... too late!) so all I can hope for is a ride... anyone leaving from DC, Baltimore, Delaware, NJ, Philadelphia, Lancaster, eastern PA, Virginia or West Virginia please let me know!!! Important! I have 2 free tickets and they'll go to waste unless I'm there! (they're press tickets).. I have gas money and everything, just need a ride (must leave after June 30 for C-Stone, can leave C-Stone for home destination anytime July 4-5).. Thanx! Please help. ** The News ** I had the privilege and opportunity to interview Michael Bailey, new lead guitarist of STRYPER, the other day on "Full Metal Worship" (94.5 FM WCXS) and it was truly awesome!! He was excited about the opportunity to hone his excellent guitar skills (sponsored by Jackson Guitars, Mesa Boogie Amps and Dean Markley Strings) for some useful purpose... as it is, Robert Sweet (drummer) is Stryper's only original member left as the other members (Michael Sweet, Oz Fox, Tim Gaines) have all gone on to different things - Tim, in fact, is in another band (more details coming, the band just formed).. it was rumored that Andy Robbins of HOLY SOLDIER was to join as the new bassist but due to the rising success of Holy Soldier, Andy decided not to leave to join Stryper.. therefore, auditions are still in order for bassist and singer, although there is a possible new bassist in the works.. Stryper, including Mike Bailey, are working on new material that will be (thank God!) along the lines of their earlier material, particularly off "To Hell With The Devil" (good for them to come back to their roots!)... Also in late breaking block busters, NEON CROSS has reformed!! The original LA metal band who was played for bands such as Warrant, Tuff, BARREN CROSS and SOLDIER, broke up nearly 3 years ago but singer/guitarist David Raymond Reeves is reforming the band.. more details as they arise.. TOURNIQUET will be in Aurora IL on Saturday June 26... MARS HILL will be in Gaithersburg MD on Saturday June 26.. and THE RISEN will not be in Annapolis MD after all (sorry folks!) on Saturday June 26 due to conflicts with their playing at Cornerstone '93.. they will hold their debut concert on the Impromptu Stage at Cornerstone (no exact date known even to the band)... vocalist Rick Taylor also informed me that they will no longer classify themselves exclusively as death metal as they are changing their style to an even more "heavy, dark, spooky and unsettling style of music nobody has ever done".. The GALACTIC COWBOYS' video for "If I Were A Killer" debuted on "Headbanger's Ball" on MTV last weekend (yes, HB playing a metal video, what a concept!) Also a reminder: for complete information on GALACTIC COWBOYS/Dream Theater concert schedule, you can download file "soae52093" via anonymous FTP at red.css.itd.umich.edu under the directory "pub/Zines/Screams.of.Abel".. RITUAL will be releasing their actual debut demo next month including 4 new songs and remixes of 2 more from their previous demo.. they will also have a new address at the end of June (their previous address found in "soae61093") which I will give to you in 2 weeks... Cornerstone '93 will not be hosting either BELIEVER or THE CRUCIFIED (despite rumors) but will be hosting: TOURNIQUET, BRAINCHILD, CIRCLE OF DUST, BRIDE, LIVING SACRIFICE, DELIVERANCE, XL & DBD and MORTAL... LOVE COMA will be the only semi-metal representative at the New Band Stage this year and members of MORTIFICATION will be there to sell merchandise and hang out and support the bands.. July 1-4 in Bushnell IL at the Cornerstone Farm (note: I have directions if you give me a ride HINT HINT).. Inner Seeds Festival '93 will be held at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds north of Atlanta July 9-11 with BRAINCHILD, DELIVERANCE, CIRCLE OF DUST and LIVING SACRIFICE.. New Bands playing include FINAL JUDGEMENT, ANTIC, THE RELEASED and ROYAL ANGUISH.. MORTAL and CIRCLE OF DUST will be in concert together on Saturday July 26 at Drexel University in Philadelphia... more details coming.. Another reminder: Screams of Abel #2 will be out shortly! Interviews with: OBLATION, THE RISEN, RITUAL and PALE HORSE and more coming... #1 is still available (if you haven't got yours please let us know!) both for $2.75, checks and MO's payable to Phil Powell or Raf Munoz.. Screams of Abel, P.O. Box 2861, Springfield, VA 22152-2861 USA.. That's it! See ya after I get back from Cornerstone... in other words, no Soae next week! See ya in 2 with some really long-winded news! Phil PS: I want a ride.
