COLLECTIVE SELF-DEFENCE I see the inevitable has now happened, Australia is at war with Iran. Of course it's not called war, it's "collective self-defence". A bunch of undemocratic Arab countries we've never had much to do with since helping to kick Turks and Germans out of the land that became them in WWI were being attacked, because the Americans were using bases there to attack Iran. So of course we're now somehow defending ourselves by helping the Americans invade their attacker. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-03-10/speaking-plainly-if-australia-is-at-war-with-iran-government/106437946 Of course it's inevitable because our country is full of American bases too. They've probably already been running all sorts of drone warfare and surveillance missions that our government wouldn't even dare ask about from out in the desert at Pine Gap and places less infamous. In Trump's first term he seems to have started this ball rolling by withdrawing America from the "Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action" which limited Iranian nuclear weapons development in return for economic incentives. At the same time I was hoping that, with Trump suddenly at the helm, Aussie politicians might finally see the sense in untying us from the US military. But no, off we go again helping the Americans to secure and expand their oil interests abroad. Also helping Israel to fend off their ineveitably endless enemies, although I'm still mystified by how both sides of American policics seem to be at Israel's beck and call, now with us Aussies dragged along by the collar as well. Sure it's just one Australian plane going over there for now, but I can't see this war staying in the air forever. - The Free Thinker.
