Yes, I'm aware of some of that since we depend on the composting of sewage and such to keep drain lines from freezing solid in winter. Plus we are helped by the insulating value of a few feet of snow, which maybe sounds funny but it's true. When I get a good layer of snow on the roof it's a lot easier to heat the house..
