Subj : building PC's To : AUGUST ABOLINS From : Rob Mccart Date : Thu Jul 03 2025 01:03:00 Hi August! RM> That might be worth a try. I was sort of hoping I might be RM> able to find a distro that would run in a Window in RM> Windows 7 to save having to reboot a CD or dual boot AA>Take a look at CoLinux. http://www.colinux.org/?section=home I'll add it to the ones to check out.. B) A brief look online shows it hasn't really been updated in the last 11 years so it may be too old to solve my issues unless a Linux version that old can still run a much more up to date browser. RM> For the moment all I really need is something that can run RM> a new enough Browser that will work on the fussy sites. I RM> recently had to go to the Hydro site where you can apply RM> for the rebates and it totally refused to even try to load RM> on my Laptop browser. RM> As I mentioned, I am running Opera, which uses the same RM> base as Chrome 109 from October 2023, the final Windows 7 RM> version. AA>FireFox works well on Win7. I use that for most banking and >sites like you mentioned that have fancy java stuff for fill-in >forms. It's more security and encryption related and I looked into Firefox a while back and all of the aftermarket browsers pretty much stopped updating for Windows 7 at the same time. Checking online, the final release of that which will still run on Windows 7 was Firefox 115 which was released on July 4th, 2023. --- * SLMR Rob * The flood has arrived, may we interest you in an ark? * Origin: capitolcityonline.net * Telnet/SSH:2022/HTTP (618:250/1) .
