FULL STORY ====================================================================== The closer we get to Christmas , the more Netflix is pulling out all the stops to make sure we're well fed when it comes to new movies. November has a whopping 91 titles to choose from, ranging from one-off comedy specials to the big blockbusters we've all been waiting for. On top of that, we've got classic titles making their streaming platform return, from all three Back to the Future movies to Timothe Chalamet's all singing, all dancing Wonka . For me, the biggest excitement lies in the Netflix Originals. I don't think the streamer has put a foot wrong when it comes to original projects this year, but November has some of my most-anticipated. In fact, I think you need to watch these three new Netflix movies more than you need to rush out and buy early Christmas presents for your loved ones. Frankenstein RT score: 95% (fan score) Director: Guillermo Del Toro Runtime: 149 minutes Age rating: R Arriving on: November 7 I'm pretty mad with my fellow critics that Frankenstein doesn't have a higher Rotten Tomatoes score (currently, it's sitting at 85%), because Del Toro's latest outing is nothing short of a masterpiece. Everything you see, from the smallest details to the largest set pieces, has been created by hand. Del Toro has been outspoken in his war against AI in moviemaking, and the amount of love poured into Frankenstein (something he has said multiple times is his childhood dream come true ) makes it all the more mesmerizing. There's a larger focus on love than fear compared to the original Mary Shelley novel, but the level of intimate tenderness opens up a whole new dimension to the story we all know so well. Jacob Elordi will likely be in awards contention, though I think the set is just as much of a character as any of its cast. Train Dreams RT score: 96% Director: Clint Bentley Runtime: 102 minutes Age rating: PG-13 Arriving on: November 21 Out of all of my picks, Train Dreams might be my favorite. Why? While I knew Frankenstein was going to blow me away, I was bowled over in surprise by how moved I was by Clint Bentley's vision for industrialized America. Following the fictional life of lumberjack Robert Grainier (Joel Edgerton), we're transported through his eyes from life to death, living all of his hardships and heartbreaks along the way. For a man living in remote wilderness in the early 1910s, boy did he suffer a lot of avoidable trauma. What really makes the movie sing is Joel Edgerton's portrayal of vulnerable masculinity. At a period of time where it was so important to be a man's man, he balances the bravado of his work with the tenderness and truly equal respect for his wife and daughter. He's not a saint, but the melodrama that follows him through life doesn't fail to make us question our own. Left-Handed Girl RT score: 97% Director: Shih-Ching Tsou Runtime: 108 minutes Age rating: R Arriving on: November 28 If you've wondered what director Sean Baker was going to do after his Academy Award winning hit Anora , look no further. This time, he's co-written, edited and produced Left-Handed Girl , a Taiwanese drama following a single mother and her two daughters opening a restaurant in Taipei. It's the Netflix hit that nobody saw coming, though with Baker and director Shih-Ching Tsou at the helm, we shouldn't have been too surprised. We see this shift in the trio's life through the eyes of the youngest daughter, giving new meaning to the most menial of tasks. However, it also adds a layer of unknown curiosity when family secrets begin to unravel. Our young guide is left-handed, which is referred to as the "devil hand" by the rest of her family. Things get more complicated by the minute, and we're fully transported for every twist and turn.
