I was doing Arduino projects for years (about eight year) before the Raspberry 
Pi was readily available.  

Thinking the RPi is a very worthy successor to the first hobbiest SBC (Single 
Board Computers), but the revolution was well underway before the RPi saw any 
significant penetration.
