## Intro Corona, Open Source and a better future. by Christoph Lohmann <20h@r-36.net> ## What is this about? This is a fast changing topic. * With corona a fast change occured. * A fast solution was required. * Corporate could not fast reply. * Open Source has a new chance. ## What happened in the beginning of Corona? (0/4) * People were gathering together freely with one motivation to defeat the virus. * The genetic code of the virus was openly exchanged. * Open Source was gathered to help the scientists and doctors. * Open Hardware was gathered to help the scientists and doctors. * Publications about corona were concentrated. ## What happened in the beginning of Corona? (1/4) * Genetic code was collected and mutations shown. * This helps in developing the vaccine. * epitopes can be found * not changing parts of the virus can be found * This helps following the spreading. * Gives hints, if some virus is from a local cluster or some other cluster. * Other clusters can be found easily. * Some websites show the exact spreading across the globa. ## What happened in the beginning of Corona? (2/4) * Open Source gathered to help the scientists and doctors. * The EFF and Chaos Communication Club made collections of easily accessible software for everyone and to be used. ## What happened in the beginning of Corona? (3/4) * Open Hardware was gathered and used to save lifes. * Ventilator modifications were made using 3d-printing. * Ventilator repair kits were made using 3d-printing. * Shield clips are made using 3d-printing to protect health workers. * Copyright and all holding back was simply ignored. * Officials tolerate it. * For how long? ## What happened in the beginning of Corona? (4/4) * Publications were concentrated. * Here some people try to use AI for publication review. * But here they fail. We already have pubmed and it works. * This field rather needs strict opening of all papers and raw data of studies. * Big publishers are only taking away money from public education budgets for no reason. ## Examples of how things were done in Germany. * Mostly paper and fax is exchanged in Germany. * This is not bad and is fast. * BUT * Some EXCEL sheet was seen as an innovation to track down infections. * Now corporate entities should make it better. ## Corporations Failed and Fail * My practice software cannot be easily modified to analyze data. * See my talk on stoppers of OSS in medical software in Germany. * The German telematics project was not used at all. * It is unusable and full of bureaucracy to protect profits. * It is a big fake VPN, so doctors have to pay high entrance fees for the VPN routers. * Copyright and Patents kill people. * Only simply ignoring them saved lifes. * Ignoring many more rules saved lifes. * Who the fuck needs quality assurance? ## Next Up: Destroying the Digitalisation Religion * Listen close to news. * The corona apps will be a disaster. * The corona app is a big scam to get state money by the priests of the digitalisation religion. * Now is the time to rip off their masks. * keep repeating how they failed using the app. * We can make people not believe in them anymore! ## A Better Future * Everyone use those these examples. * Convince officials of the advantages of open systems. * Open Hardware is a new topic and needs to be spread too. * Should there be a right to 3d-print medical devices? * It is needed in case of emergency. * it is needed in the third world. * Now you have good arguments against any centralisation. * Centralisation is an architecture from the past. * In Germany I am bring up arguments for oss in medical software. * Only one person who is loud is enough to get more people to repeat it. ## Questions?
