This report outlines a user interface design for the Eden system that allows all objects to be examined, created, destroyed, and modified by means of a single mechanism. This design, based on a hierarchy of syntax-directed, generalized editors, makes editing the basic paradigm for human interaction with the system; that is, all interactions with the system are treated as the editing of objects. ------- Our technical reports are available (only by U.S. mail, sorry) by writing to: Ann Greene Department of Computer Science, FR-35 University of Washington Seattle, WA 98195 Jeff Scofield's ARPAnet address is Jeff@Washington.
