Aucbvax.1583 fa.info-terms utzoo!duke!decvax!ucbvax!nomdenet@RAND-UNIX Tue Jun 9 21:41:44 1981 1200-Bps Modems I've purchased a terminal (an Ann-Arbor Ambassador) for use at home. I'll use it with Rand's computers, since I don't have any home system. To do this I must have a modem, of course. Rand has Racal-Vadic triple modems (Bell 103, Bell 212, & Vadic 3400 protocols), and I refuse to use any speed below 1200 bps while connected to any Rand machine, but I want the ability to connect to other systems at 300 bps. Now I'm considering purchase of either Racal-Vadic's VA3451 directly- connecting triple modem ($900), or their VA3413 acoustic-coupled dual modem (Bell 103 & VA3400 protocols, $895) which can also be connected the telephone line through a data access arrangement (more $$$). Does anybody have suggestions for other equipment to consider? Or might somebody have compiled modem information and made it available on line some- where? Please reply to me directly (Nomdenet @ Rand-UNIX) and not to the list. A. R.
