I received my 'ticket' in high school, and slowly fell away from amateur radio during the 'college' years. Although I still get QST and all of the related information, I very very rarely 'fire up' the rig. Interests now center around computer related things (!), although I have been looking for a nice marriage of these two topics. Oscar activities seemed like a possibility for awhile, however nothing was ever done. More recently, I have been interested in radio networks. It appears as if several packet switching amateur radio nets are up and running now. I would like to ask those familar with them to provide some information on their operation and functions. Speaking for myself, there is nothing more I would like to do than get my UNIX machines networked over an amateur radio path. Maybe someone can comment on the legal aspects of such a system, in terms of the amateur radio 'hobby' requirements. In any case, the creation of this news group is a very good idea, I will be watching quite closely.
