I tend to prefer the cut-out bins (you know, the records with little notches in the cover) for most of my record purchases. When you know what you're looking for, you can pick up some real gems. It's also a cheap way to experiment. Back in Champaign at the U. of Ill. we had a couple of record stores with tremendous cut-out selections. Last time I went back, one of them had an entire room upstairs just filled with them. Boy, do I miss having all those records to peruse (I love liner notes). Out here in Jersey, one of the better places to find cut-outs and used albums is at the flea markets. The one in Englishtown is particularly good. I try to avoid used albums, unless I want to experiment with stuff I can't find in the cut-outs. Sometimes, though, I've had to settle for a used album when I can't find a new copy. I paid $10 for a used copy of an album I spent several years looking for (the first "Ship" album). --- Tim Thompson --- BTL/Holmdel --- ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
