5 Bitreich is now supporting tar.gz and tar.lz for release files, due to
6 good arguments for lzip:

10 Lzip gives us requirements for very far future needs, where integrity of
11 archives should not fail. We would like to encourage packagers to use

16 Lzip offers a very nice feature for last resort: lziprecover(1). This
17 can reconstruct some corrupted archive file found from 10 years ago,
18 where there is only one left on some hidden ftp server. With xz this
19 could be impossible.

21 Open Source is about long-time thinking. We hope everyone appreciates
22 this.

24 FOR PACKAGERS: The old .tgz files are left there, but will not be
25 regenerated. Now we have .tar.gz and .tar.lz. All of them are of course
26 with some sha512sum file for extra integrity check.
