I wrote about the Mind's Eye video that cat tooted about yesterday
and I am still continuing to enjoy them. I am drawn to stuff like
that and staring at visuals (like the milkdrop plugin on winamp.)
As I was watching, I started to wonder how the videos would look in
ASCII. ASCII videos aren't really good to watch actively, but makes
for good passive background video for a spare monitor. It can be ok
if it's animation or something.
I remember a hackerspace [] opening party I went to some time ago
had room with a blank wall that had ASCII movies projected on the
entire wall the whole evening. It was very cool and
very...hackerspace. People would go in that room and try to figure
out what movie was playing. Some stayed in there for a long time
to be...differently social. Most stayed in the main room with
everybody else and the DJ.
So yeah...the Mind's Eye...I loaded up the video in mplayer using
libcaca and have been playing with the settings. I can't really
get it to play at full screen in ASCII mode without going 640x480,
but even with that, it has a border and title around the window. Oh
well. it's still ok. I'll mess with it more later. Here's a bad
screenshot. [1]
Maybe I can rig up a projector or something and have it shine on my
face with ASCII Mind's Eye during a video meeting for work. That
should help me level up my l33t hax0r cred, lolz! ph34r m3~!!
