Checking the serial number of my X201

> A phlog from the "they don't make them as they used to" department.

For fun, I checked the serial number of my ThinkPad X201 on the
website of Lenovo,

It returned the following information:

    Machine Type: 3680
    Product: ThinkPad X201 2.40GHz 4GB 80GB DVDR W7P
    Country/Region: Sweden
    Ship Date: 2010-06-11

Lenovo recognized the serial number and came up with the right
model.

The country/region is surprising.

I bought the laptop refurbished. the keyboard has been stickered to
QWERTY. Most the refurbished laptops this company sells have
originally AZERY keyboards. (The company is located in the south
of the Netherlands, close to the Belgium border.)

The `F' and the `J' key have lost their sticker, because of the use
of the keyboard.

Left of the `Z'-key (stickered version), is a key that is blanked out
with a sticker, and left of that is the Left-Shift key.

When more stickers are getting loose, it will become more clear
what layout the keyboard originally had :)

Daily driver
------------
The ThinkPad X201 is my daily driver,

I love this machine. It's a joy to use its excellent classic ThinkPad
keyboard, and its classic TrackPoint. The display, with a resolution
of 1280x800 has a nice aspect ratio.

I installed FreeBSD with the ratpoison window manager on it, and it
performs well. I run virtual machines (using `bhyve', the FreeBSD
hypervisor) and FreeBSD jails on it.

Still going strong after 15 years
---------------------------------
The information from Lenovo confirms the age of the laptop.

It is wonderful that it is still working so well, after 15 years!

The classical IBM ThinkPads and the classical Lenovo ThinkPads are
great machines with a well thought design, which allows for easy
upgrades and repairs.

And indeed, "they don't make them as they used to" really applies
to these machines.
