Monday 9 December 2024 Re: ed is the standard ====================== Today I raad the enthousiastic Gopher post by Kensanata, titled `ed is the standard' [1]. Kensanata uses tin as usenet newsreader with ed as the editor. Also Kensanata used ed to compose email messages on the command line. Ed is the standard editor ------------------------- Like many people here on Gopher, I am a great fan of ed. It is fast, it is simple, and only overwrites your terminal screen to display what you asks it to display. I like it for small edits of f.e., config files. Sometimes I write Gopher posts with ed too :) At the 2023 at T-Dose I gave a workshop "Workshop getting started with the editor ed" [2], hoping to inspire more people to use ed. Ed is not hard -------------- Ed is not hard, but you can't use it without any preparation. There are several good resources on the internet that can get you started, for example the tutorial written by Brian W. Kernighan [3], and the GNU manual [4], although that is specific for GNU ed. Happy ed-iting!
