2022/06/10 - Firefly Tree

I've gotten fairly caught up in the swirl of daily life recently and have
missed out on a lot of the little things around me worth appreciating.  But
just yesterday I had nice moment to suddenly slow things down in the right way.

We've had a lot of up and down temperatures (and corresponding humidity levels)
this Spring, and yesterday was a perfect low, hitting the 60's (F) by late
evening.  My kind of weather!  We had all the windows open at home, including
one second floor window that faces right out into the canopy of a big deciduous
tree.  I stopped by the window to feel the cool night air drifting into the
home when I saw a blinking constellation of fireflies out among the branches
and leaves of the tree.  And it wasn't just a handful of fireflies but hundreds
of them, blinking on and off, illuminating different tiny parts of the canopy
like an animation of brain synapses firing in the dark.

I stood there for a while until I got pulled back into the house by the tasks
of winding the family down for the night.  But it was enough of a break to be
very refreshing.  I'll try to catch the show again tonight.
