# Hearth Stories

I continue to work on my magaine (Hearth Stories*), though
the continual barrage of AI submissions is really really
disheartening. We do not pay very much and all of it is
out of pocket (the magazine brings in zero money). I have
thought about throwing in the towel a few times, but am
keeping at it for now. I finished reading submissions a
few days before getting sick, and still have maybe one or
two acceptances to send out (all pass e-mails have already
been sent). I got a few really really great stories and
some solidly good ones. On the whole I am happy with the
issue that is taking shape and it reminds me why I go
through all of it, lol. I like reading, I like that people
write (even if I do not really partake in writing beyond
letters in the mail, an occasional e-mail, and little life
update phlogs like this), I like being able to be a part
of something that combines the skills I have with those
of others. Even if it is hard sometimes, we should all be
so fortunate to be able to use our skills in combination
with others toward a thing that makes people happy without
it being an unhealthy thing, or a thing that is mostly
about money.

# Sled

I phlogged about it over on circumlunar, so I'll be brief
here, but I have continued working on my text editor, and
am just really happy to have a solid tool that I built that
suits my needs and that I grok from the ground up. I have
been using it daily for actual coding/writing and have been
very happy with it. The big quality of life improvements
are windowing and utf-8 support. Do you have a project that
you built (code or otherwise) that you use daily even if it
is not exactly better, at least by some metrics, than other
similar things "on the market"? What kind of projects are
folks working on that are meaningful to them?

I found, through... HN? Lobste.rs? tildes? Not sure... a
link to an archive.org collection of live recordings that
a guy named Adam Jacobs made over many decades. Apparently
he recorded over 2.5k live shows. A good chunk of what he
apparently likes overlaps with things I have liked a lot,
either in the past or currently. So I have been having fun
listening to live shows on archive.org. Right now I am
really liking this set by The Dirty Three (instrumental
stuff w/ violin, guitar, and drums if you are not familiar):

I have enjoyed live sets by: The Fire Theft, Joan of Arc,
The Dirty Three, Pinback, etc. Though there is a lot of
other stuff there. I even listened to a recording of
pre-Dave-Grohl Nirvana from 1989. Neat!
