By: Twik Date: March 21, 2019, 10:05 am --------------------------------------------------------- My vet was worrying about my elderly cat losing weight (he has thyroid issues, and she was worried about him getting into a vicious cycle of not eating - getting too weak to eat). So, I was ordered to use *any means necessary* to get some meat on his bones. So, after two weeks of mackerel treats, his highness has gained a half pound! Vet was very pleased. #Post#: 27987-------------------------------------------------- Re: Project Fat Cat is a success so far! Keep up the good work. #Post#: 28005-------------------------------------------------- Re: Project Fat Cat is a success so far! By: camlan Date: March 21, 2019, 2:17 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Wonderful! Thyroid issues in cats are so hard to deal with--if only they could tell us how they feel. Under similar circumstances, I found baby food ham and anything salmon-flavored worked well. Never thought of mackerel--will keep that on the list for future reference. #Post#: 28014-------------------------------------------------- Re: Project Fat Cat is a success so far! Thyroid issues in cats are so hard to deal with--if only they could tell us how they feel. Under similar circumstances, I found baby food ham and anything salmon-flavored worked well. Never thought of mackerel--will keep that on the list for future reference. [/quote] I found it tucked away in the canned food section of my grocery - mackerel fillets in olive oil, packed in a glass bottle. He adores it, to the point of being obnoxious in demanding I provide seconds. #Post#: 28054-------------------------------------------------- Re: Project Fat Cat is a success so far! I’ll bet his coat loves the olive oil, too. #Post#: 34413-------------------------------------------------- Re: Project Fat Cat is a success so far! By: JeanFromBNA Date: July 12, 2019, 11:53 am --------------------------------------------------------- You might see if you can get Tiki Cat canned cat food where you are. Expensive-as-all-get-out, but actual hunks of fish or meat, plus other ingredients that will help give him a more balanced diet than straight fish. We have a diabetic cat that eats the sardine Tiki Cat food because all of it is low glycemic. #Post#: 34416-------------------------------------------------- Re: Project Fat Cat is a success so far! By: TootsNYC Date: July 12, 2019, 12:56 pm --------------------------------------------------------- my kitty has kidney issues that will prove fatal eventually, and she's SO skinny. But i'm terrified to feed her anything but the kidney food because it will be so high in sodium. I don't want to rush things. *****************************************************
