       Can't restore Blackout firmware.
       By: DCastro555 Date: November 29, 2012, 4:15 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Hello there,
Since a few days I found this custom firmware, and reading all
the comments I wanted to try it out.
I tried restoring using itunes 10.7, in pwned DFU mode using
iReb 4 and 5, tried using TinyUmbrella running TSS server, tried
using itunes 10.6.3, also tried using 10.5.
After several hours trying with all this combinations of things
i could only receive 2 results.
       1) Itunes give me error 3194, even after modifying hosts file.
       2) (With tinyumbrella TSS server runing) The ipod would
"Restore", but after it restores Itunes give me error 37 (An
error ocurred and i need to restore with original version
       again).
I googled a lot, i searched a lot, also read all posts in this
forum, but nothing I do let me restore my ipod with custom
firmware, any help or advice would be appreciated.
Im using an ipod 2g MC model (8 gb).
       Thanks.

i got this problem, 3194 is caused by bad dfu, and 37 is because
of the shsh. you can try to disable request shsh from cydia in
the advanced section of tiny it should work, if no, then use
redsn0w to fetch and inject shsh directly into bl4ck0ut ipsw so
       you will not need tinyumbrella

       Ill try it now,
What do you mean with bad DFU? I can restore other firmwares I
have, but I only have problems with this one.
I tried unchecking Requests SHSH from Cydia, but no luck at all.
(Anyway, i have no idea what this shsh and blobs are).

are you jailbroken? have you tryed the first option? have you
       fetched with tinyumbrella?

Yes, Im jailbroken, whenever something wrong occurs i restore a
3.1.3 jailbroken untethered version i have, and start over
       again.
Unchecking requests SHSH from Cydia in tinyunbrella didnt
       worked.
       Havent fetched with tinyumbrella.
Right now im using the STITCH option in the custom firmware,
       lets see what happen.
BTW, i dont know if this have any relevance, but this is the
same problem i had with whitedoor, no succeed after trying for 2
       days.

whited00r is not mc compatible, thats why i made a ota update
for 3.1.3 with some whited00r/bl4ck0ut features. and yeah in
redsn0w you have the options to remote shsh, it will download
them from cydia and inject into blackout ipsw, but are you sure
       you have 4.2.1 shsh ?

Eureka! Using the stitch option in redsnow worked after all.
Thanks for everything, ill use this firmware from now on.
One last thing, (I dont know what shsh are, neither blobs, but
everytime i opened cydia it said i have 4.2.1 shsh), can you
please give me a brief explanation of what is it? I never really
       understood :S
       Thanks again.

welcome, and welcome to the community,
SHSH blobs is a Hash signature system (Signature HaSH blobs)
made by Apple Inc. to control manual software downgrades on
iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches (a typical prelude to
Jailbreaking). An SHSH is created by an SHSH formula (CLI
Application) with 3 or 4 TSS keys: 1) the device (e.g. iPhone 4
CDMA), 2) the firmware version being signed (e.g. 4.2.8) and 3)
the device's ECID, a unique ID contained within every device.
The SHSH is a Plist, built with blobs, with each blob intended
for a different part of the software (like kernel and Apple
logo). These blobs control which firmware is restorable and
which is not. When Apple wishes to restrict users' ability to
"downgrade" their devices to a prior firmware version, Apple can
simply refuse to generate this hash during the downgrade
attempt, and the downgrade will not be successful (or at the
very least, will require significant technical intervention).

Great explanation, what I dont understand is why i was always
able to restore to version 3.1.3 if i only had SHSH for 4.2.1
and 4.0, but I think that is another discussion, thanks for
everything, ill try using blackout store and else, and post
wether i find an error or comment.
       Thanks for everything again.
