Can I make $5,500 a month for rent as tattoo shop owner
By: Kylo Date: March 8, 2020, 4:15 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
We are in the process of trying to open a tattoo studio in
Houston, Texas on Westheimer and Fondren.
They're asking $5,500 and its a good size space...but that
sounds almost impossible! Am I wrong? My husband does not make
nearly that much working for other shops but is it a lot
different on the owners side of income? What about electricity
       and water?
Any other tattoo shop owners out there or people with insight?
       Can we do this?

I would say, you gotta be kidding.
How much do they charge for a tattoo in the area?
How much business do you expect? Multiple that by job and that's
       your "revenue".
Then add up the expenses. Utilities, supplies, salaries, license
       fees, insurance, etc.
Add that to the rent, and you got yourself "break-even".

The business you expect? Clearly that's not going to happen
just as you open. So you have to have spare money to "burn", so
to speak, until business ramp up.

I have no experience with tattoo shops, but in general you need
to have enough equity (savings, home equity loan, small business
loan) to run for two or three years before you start making a
profit...you need that amount of time to build up enough of a
customer base to make a go of things.

You need to sit down and figure out what your expenses are going
to be, and then see if you can realistically pay those bills.
You might start by going the other way and figuring out how many
customers your husband has now and how much money they are
       bringing into the shop.

       As I mentioned, I don't know the tattoo business, and I don't
even know Houston. But I think $5500 is probably WAY too much
for a startup, especially considering that you are going to have
other expenses: salaries, insurance, shop supplies, etc.

The incontrovertible fact that the artist 'could not care much
less' is a massive obstacle and one who the landlord demands to
be trained of. I've under no circumstances heard of peroxide
being ready to take off a tat - laser removing is, so far as I
       understand, the one method.
