I am currently building a CycleKart. I am able bodied but I have a friend who is disabled who would also like to take part in events. If I fit hand controls ie throttle and break on the steering wheel would that be acceptable? Thanks. #Post#: 11272-------------------------------------------------- Re: Disabled Drivers By: Phaeton Date: July 16, 2024, 2:37 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Nothing to do with the rule writers but there is nothing that says they cannot • Brakes: Rear (driven axle) brakes only. Can be mechanical or hydraulic Doesn't mention throttle at all other than having 2x return springs #Post#: 11275-------------------------------------------------- Re: Disabled Drivers By: Jimr1999 Date: July 17, 2024, 2:55 am --------------------------------------------------------- Throttle and brake on the steering wheel is used on many road car adaptions and well proven. Just make sure your friend is happy with your engineering :D JimR #Post#: 11295-------------------------------------------------- Re: Disabled Drivers By: Wozza Date: July 19, 2024, 2:32 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for the reply. #Post#: 11298-------------------------------------------------- Re: Disabled Drivers By: Ian F Date: July 20, 2024, 8:21 am --------------------------------------------------------- Another consideration would be how easy it will be for your friend to get in and out? These are approximately 3/4 scale subsequently access, egress can be quite awkward. #Post#: 11300-------------------------------------------------- Re: Disabled Drivers By: RhysN Date: July 20, 2024, 2:43 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Perhaps the Edwardian style cars might be a better "fit" for your friend? #Post#: 11301-------------------------------------------------- Re: Disabled Drivers By: Phaeton Date: July 20, 2024, 3:27 pm --------------------------------------------------------- I'm sure I have seen a Utube of a guy with limited mobility, he made the kart so that he could enter from one side, the whole body flipped up to one side, he made the steering brace so there was no support on one side so he could easily get his legs in. #Post#: 11302-------------------------------------------------- Re: Disabled Drivers By: Chris Godfrey Date: July 20, 2024, 11:19 pm --------------------------------------------------------- You might be thinking of this one HTML https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=22BwUGA5mqk&pp=ygURTW9kZWwgYSBjeWNsZWNhcnQ%3D #Post#: 11313-------------------------------------------------- Re: Disabled Drivers By: Wozza Date: July 22, 2024, 10:49 am --------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for all the useful comments and suggestions. He is able to get in and out with assistance. His main issue is very limited use of his legs. I have started designing some steering wheel controls. He is also an engineer so I'm sure he will be scrutinising my designs. #Post#: 11316-------------------------------------------------- Re: Disabled Drivers By: RhysN Date: July 23, 2024, 12:51 am --------------------------------------------------------- Wozza, Kelly Wood in the US has all his controls on the wheel so that his wheelchair bound wife can use his cars. If you want I'll ask permission to have you in contact directly with him. ***************************************************** DIR Next Page
