He's picked the car, I'm challenged with making it happen. My dad's chosen this car to be sort of a twin with mine, the fonts are very similar, the rears very different. As with almost everybody's second build, we're aiming for lower and lighter, and inadvertently more complicated. I've been designing this on computer for several months and now have most of the parts to make it happen. We planned to start the build after Christmas but I have some spare time so thought I'd make a start. We're going for a stepped chassis on this build to get weight lower down whilst still using a standard leaf spring and axle setup. And also attempting to make our own front axle instead of the Gemini axle used on mine. #Post#: 12158-------------------------------------------------- Re: Here we go again! 1922 Hudson super six By: NewbieNick Date: December 18, 2024, 10:56 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Nice looking car/kart, love the rocket shaped thingy under the exhaust. Look forward to reading this build journal. #Post#: 12160-------------------------------------------------- Re: Here we go again! 1922 Hudson super six By: Jimr1999 Date: December 19, 2024, 1:10 am --------------------------------------------------------- Photo's on Facebook look like a great start Jay. Having a "brace to race" in the family will be a fine thing, just don't fight over who drives what ;D I made my last build way too complex, but as I like building at least as much as driving them, that was the kick for me. I vow to try and keep it simple with project "Eric" (I somehow doubt I'm capable of it, but I will have a go) Looking forward to the build journal. Me and my dad have a couple of theories but don't know for sure. Jim, this is still going to be far simpler than your wizardry on the front end, I've found myself on multiple occasions this year staring at the front of yours and only ever managed to walk away with a headache :D beautiful work. As for fighting over them, the fastest ones mine :D . The pictures from Facebook will make it over here. I want to try and make this build log more in depth, so will likely be a couple of days behind the quick snap that goes on Facebook. That's one of the main regrets I have with my build log, it's very sparse and I can't remember everything. #Post#: 12162-------------------------------------------------- Re: Here we go again! 1922 Hudson super six By: winchman Date: December 19, 2024, 3:45 am --------------------------------------------------------- I think the rocket shaped thing could easily be made from a fire extinguisher etc No idea what its actually for? #Post#: 12163-------------------------------------------------- Re: Here we go again! 1922 Hudson super six By: TomFDS Date: December 19, 2024, 3:59 am --------------------------------------------------------- Your brass ‘missile” down the side may be an early fire extinguisher! #Post#: 12164-------------------------------------------------- Re: Here we go again! 1922 Hudson super six By: NewbieNick Date: December 19, 2024, 6:01 am --------------------------------------------------------- Hi Jay, I notice your Hudson has headlights, these may be Carbide lights, the missile thingy may be a carbide water / Acetylene gas container. Just a thought I would be interested to know what it is. Cheers Nick #Post#: 12167-------------------------------------------------- Re: Here we go again! 1922 Hudson super six By: jay pratt Date: December 19, 2024, 10:26 am --------------------------------------------------------- Yes that's one of the things we thought it could be for the lights #Post#: 12170-------------------------------------------------- Re: Here we go again! 1922 Hudson super six By: jay pratt Date: December 20, 2024, 1:46 am --------------------------------------------------------- Chassis Rails The first step was to cut some steel up that's been hanging precariously above my cyclekart for a week. In an attempt at making this stepped chassis, we've used the standard 75x25 box for the main chassis but the upper step we've opted for 50x25, partly to save weight (although not much, about 500 grams per metre) and also to give us more options for the steering arms placement. We've bolted the two sections together to help get them perfectly aligned before being welded later down the line. The bolts sticking up out the front are temporarily holding the spring mounts in place, I'll be removing these after welding, on my first build I left these in, an eagle eyed viewer of my videos from the front axle may have noticed, one of the bolts is actually hanging out, I'm not making that mistake again 🤣. #Post#: 12177-------------------------------------------------- Re: Here we go again! 1922 Hudson super six By: NewbieNick Date: December 21, 2024, 10:21 am --------------------------------------------------------- Hi Jay, pretty sure you know about this site if not its worth a look.eberhard-thiesen.de ***************************************************** DIR Next Page
