For those who are not yet members who may be building a cyclekart or collecting parts to do so, I will repeat the content of that email here... "As you are probably aware from our communications on the forum, the committee has been working on a method of determining that the engines used at our events comply with the rules in our current handbook that limit power to 10HP. We have undertaken research in this area from published power results and taken a Honda GX200 into Jeff at Prokart engineering. Jeff is an engine modifier with a dynamometer and kindly offered some time and his services to test results of cumulative modifications one at a time to give us the data. The Power Menu was designed to allow members to choose many ways of achieving power upgrades within our 10HP limit. Our aim was to enable members to modify their engines without stifling the creativity that draws us all to cyclekarting in the first place. Thought was also given to safety, and, especially, affordability - which is in line with the ethos of the founders of cyclekarting. It is a system for implementing the 10hp rule which is based on research and testing, and just as importantly, is practical. The many potential combinations of modifications that are permitted will lead to different results in HP, but the point is that it is reasonably right and can be implemented in a simple way. To be clear, this is not a system to accurately predict the exact horsepower of your engine, but it will give a reasonable estimate and provide a system for managing engine modifications. This version of the Power Menu will be in effect from the date of this email. It will be used for the 2025 season and then it will be reviewed to determine its accuracy and usefulness. At that point it may be amended if we find it to be deficient. Attached below is the Power Menu, which is to be used for reference when modifying your engine. Also attached is a Power Declaration form which must be submitted to take part in events. The Power Declaration form should be brought to the event and handed to the CKGB Event Organiser. The form should then be collected by you at the end of the event for re-use. Kind regards, The CKGB Team." #Post#: 12289-------------------------------------------------- Re: Power Menu By: TomFDS Date: January 15, 2025, 1:48 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Why are billet flywheels banned? I just got one last month instead of an inferior cast part. Also does that include the aluminium Dynocam one shown here- HTML https://gxtuningstoreuk.com/inc/sdetail/132/3803 #Post#: 12290-------------------------------------------------- Re: Power Menu By: Ian F Date: January 15, 2025, 1:58 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Hi Tom, Billet flywheels are banned on grounds of cost, this a low-cost hobby in accordance with the worldwide ethos of Cyclekarts. However, if you are worried about the possible risk of cast iron flywheels failing, then valve springs are limited to 18lbs" to restrict maximum revs. If your still worried, then there is the possibility of fitting the Honda cast aluminium flywheel, but not billet flywheels. I empathise with you already buying a billet flywheel, but we have been warning about forthcoming changes regards the engine since 13/8/24. #Post#: 12291-------------------------------------------------- Re: Power Menu By: TomFDS Date: January 15, 2025, 2:05 pm --------------------------------------------------------- I only joined in November! I didn’t buy my wheel new. Does the ban include the one I linked? I totally agree with low cost, one of the main things that attracted me to Cyclekarts. #Post#: 12293-------------------------------------------------- Re: Power Menu By: Ian F Date: January 15, 2025, 2:26 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Im afraid it does include the one you linked. If you go back to the Flywheels section at GX tuning there is a Honda cast aluminium flywheel that is acceptable, and significantly cheaper. #Post#: 12294-------------------------------------------------- Re: Power Menu By: TomFDS Date: January 15, 2025, 2:52 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for clarifying that. #Post#: 12296-------------------------------------------------- Re: Power Menu By: RhysN Date: January 16, 2025, 4:38 am --------------------------------------------------------- I praise the efforts of the people involved to put a lid on things, well done to you all. I too am caught up in the flywheel issue, with a bit of a twist. I have had my flywheel for over 10 years. I made a phone call this morning to GX Tuning to ask a few questions from those who know. He said that he very much doubts that my flywheel would have any advantage over the Honda one, but did give me an option, put it on ebay and sell it and buy a Honda one. Then again I also looked at the calendar this morning. Only one event really appeals, and it's while I will be in NZ at a cyclekart event there! #Post#: 12388-------------------------------------------------- Re: Power Menu By: Jimr1999 Date: January 18, 2025, 7:50 am --------------------------------------------------------- We have had some frequently asked questions regarding interpretation of the Power Menu and filling in the declaration.. One has been: What number do I put in the box marked "CYCLEKART REGISTRATION NUMBER"? This should be the chassis plate number if you have been issued one. Leave blank if you have not. Several other common questions might be answered best with the attached exemplar. *****************************************************
