In the process we disturbed the camshaft and lifters. We reinstalled the camshaft, lining up the timing marks and had to drop the pushrods in from the top, meaning we had to reset the valve clearances. We've set them to 8 and 10 thou, which seemed to be the recommended gaps. My concern is the the rockers feel very sloppy at TDC with those settings. Is that normal? #Post#: 12686-------------------------------------------------- Re: Valve clearances By: christopher kaminski Date: February 18, 2025, 11:38 am --------------------------------------------------------- Hi, not sure about the lifan but honda GX 200 set to .006 & .008 inch so you maybe a couple thou loose on both #Post#: 12687-------------------------------------------------- Re: Valve clearances By: DavidandCarolynne Date: February 18, 2025, 11:56 am --------------------------------------------------------- Thank you. #Post#: 12688-------------------------------------------------- Re: Valve clearances By: NewbieNick Date: February 18, 2025, 12:07 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Hi, I have a lifan in the Marmon Wasp, the valves clearances you have used are correct for that engine. That will tighten up quite a lot as the engine comes up to temperature. Have you upgraded the springs to 18lbs ? Cheers Nick #Post#: 12689-------------------------------------------------- Re: Valve clearances By: DavidandCarolynne Date: February 18, 2025, 1:01 pm --------------------------------------------------------- No, we've left the springs as-is for now. We've added a decent exhaust and a Mikuni clone carb. We're trying to resist the temptation to go for loads of power as we've both been involved in properly powerful racing kit in the past and the cyclekart is meant to be a light-hearted break from that. #Post#: 12690-------------------------------------------------- Re: Valve clearances By: NewbieNick Date: February 19, 2025, 12:12 am --------------------------------------------------------- Hi,fully understand what you’re saying about the power. But I think that with the governor removed & a mikuni carb you will have much higher revs than the weak springs can cope with. Resulting in valve float. Cheers Nick #Post#: 12691-------------------------------------------------- Re: Valve clearances By: Jimr1999 Date: February 19, 2025, 3:28 am --------------------------------------------------------- For the sake of a few quid and the peace of mind the up-rated springs give you, I would be in agreement with Nick. I have bought from kart suppliers "18lb" springs and also used the link below that does not give a rating but classes them as "heavy duty" - and when bought - they are identical to the "18lb" springs even to the packaging.
