R: 2nd +20sec -> 3rd; Had a decent launch off the line entering turn 1, saw a gap between Gazza and Macca but couldn't stick it so I held back and followed Macca through the rest of sector 1, and when I got down to the hairpin I saw Moussa spun backwards and Macca came around the corner and whacked him into me and we both went careening off the track. When we rejoined, I was at least 20 seconds down, and within a couple of laps Moussa was pulling a gap on me. We came up behind Josh and Paul pretty quickly and both dusted him off easily. Thought we had both dusted Paul off as well, but he appeared about 200 feet up the road or so right in front of Moussa and this happened several times over the next few laps. Side Note: Paul you really need to get your connection sorted man, I don't think it's fair to race in a league with others when no one knows where your car is and you pretty much ruined Moss' race on 3 different occasions and he had to quit because of it. This is the 3rd race we've been on track together since you joined us and all 3x your lag was dreadful. I saw Livo had pitted for a new front wing (according to my engineer) so I jumped him in the process but it wasn't before long that he had pushed me to the side and pulled away. I pitted a couple of laps later for primes, and a few laps later the safety car came out. I thought it was silly to stay on the primes, so I pitted (since I was last anyway) and put options on and rejoined the SC at the back. This was my saving grace this race for sure. When we went back green, I was stuck at the back of a line that stretched from 3rd place Gazza all the way back to 7th place which was where I was (Paul was behind me...or so I think). Stubbs was just ahead of me and had quite a few bobbles which allowed the gap ahead to pull away. I passed him at the end of the 2nd DRS straightaway and on the next lap I saw that Gazza was spun out in the same spot. A couple of laps later, I saw that Ben and Striker made contact in sector 3 so Gaz and I shot past them, and then Gazza ultimately made an error in the final corner which put me to 3rd. I pulled away at this point a bit right before all the front runners went to pit. Livo rejoined < 5 sec ahead of me and on the next lap he was gone from disconnection. I decided at this point to do something drastic, and that was to make the options I pitted for under the SC last as long as possible and then pit for primes for the run to the finish. Lap 18 was a super rough one...Macca's gap went from about 15 sec to 6 in those last 2 laps before I pitted, but when I exited on the primes, the gap was around 13 sec. Towards the end of his stint I was faster but when he came out of the pits on the options I was a little disappointed to see that Macca was a mere 5 seconds behind me on options with 5 laps to go. I tried to be as conservative as possible with the tires so as not to wear them completely out but Macca was closing 2 sec a lap at the start. I tried everything in my power to launch out of the DRS hairpin and get some speed but he ultimately got the better of me at the start of sector 3 with just a lap and a half remaining. Thought I was going to bring it home 2nd, until I got crossed up on the last lap at the very last turn and got myself a dreadful 20 sec penalty ::) stupid game. Was an up and down race for me, definitely not what I'd hoped but it's a good result nonetheless and we came out on top constructor wise. Brazil is going to be an interesting race, right down to the wire for all 3 teams involved. DOD: Macca, who had almost no practice before this race and found himself a winner comfortably. Excellent job Macca! #Post#: 841-------------------------------------------------- Re: Race Reports - Abu Dhabi Grand Prix By: Moss Date: February 21, 2012, 4:42 am --------------------------------------------------------- First of all I want to say I'm sorry that I forgot to change my car, for this league I drive a Ferrari but every other league and random races I choose mercedes. For the race, my start wasn't all that, because I was on the inside line I had to break early, I lost 2nd place to stricken, then on t5 got spun out by (gazza I think) after i spun i saw cars passing and slamming into me and worste was drew who got stuck (sorry andrew) but that wasn't the reason why I left, for arround 3/4 laps I was stuck behind Paul, I know it's not his fault, it's a connection issue but almost every corner his car completely stops, and I slam into him. I would pass him then then all of a sudden hes still well ahead, lost over 3 seconds a lap struggling behind, then I think on lap 8 or 9 at T1 he completely stopped in front of me on t1 and I lost my front end, I just had to quite because it wasn't fair at all for me, atleast I would've made up the spin I had on the hairpin. San marina is one of my strongest tracks, I was almost 1.5 second slower than I could achieve in qualifying but due to little practice, so I made so many mistakes. #Post#: 842-------------------------------------------------- Re: Race Reports - Abu Dhabi Grand Prix By: camstubbs86 Date: February 21, 2012, 5:24 am --------------------------------------------------------- Q - 7th went out and did a 2 lap stint on the primes, was 1.6 secs behind the pole sitter who was on options. Race - 5th i got a lucky break at the start as there was a mass pile up at the hairpin and i dived low and come out many spots ahead. i ran lean mix for majority of the 1st 2 stints. i didnt want to ruin anyones race as im not in championship contention. towards the end i start picking up the pace as grip improved and got ahead of a few guys and found myself chasing drew in 3rd place, had to pit on lap 21 for my last stint which brought me behind strike force i caught him quickly and he made a mistake at the shicane before the tight hairpin, thought i had the inside run but come together and i spun. i should have got him under drs on the straight i continued on to finish 5th due to 20 sec worth of penalties, i recieved this on lap 26/27 lol i was spewing. anyway good racing with you guys. i felt i had decent pace to keep up with you guys video posted of all my mistakes, incidents, passes. sorry in advance to strikeforce if u check the video at 5.10 we come together and i made him lose time on the other runners possibly costing him in championship points!. i thought id made a clean pass but didnt get the braking i wanted and thought u might have yielded more!~thanks for a good race everyone. i picked up the fastest lap on lap 25/26 with a 1.33.225 HTML http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_whZ85Ec-6s&feature=youtu.be HTML http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_whZ85Ec-6s&feature=youtu.be can someone tell me what the command text is to embed on these forums #Post#: 843-------------------------------------------------- Re: Race Reports - Abu Dhabi Grand Prix By: macca9899 Date: February 22, 2012, 12:56 am --------------------------------------------------------- Q=5th R=1st Quali was actually OK for me and I really thought I would struggle around here with no practice and a guess at a set-up. I was going to run the primes and maybe try a differnt strategy and that was what I used on my first run. I ended up 7th and thought to myself that was just too far back and decided to do another run on options which wasnt great but jumped up to fifth and more importantly on the outside for turn one ;D My race start was good and I managed to hold my position. I had to brake early to avoid hitting the back of Gaz during the first few turns as my car felt really good and I was pretty keen to make a pass but just kept my cool thinking it was a long race and I didnt want to spin, damage the car or get a penalty or worse yet all of the above ::) So I get to the turn 5 hairpin tucked up behind Gaz and Moss who were side by side and watched as they made contact sending Moss sideways right in my path. There was nowhere I could go and i hit him pushing him then into Drews path. Sorry mate. Hard luck to Moss aswell sounds like you had a rough race. I think for memory I cam out of that little pile up 6th or 7th. I then had I little battle with Livo for a couple of laps until the safety car was deployed. I had just pitted so just stayed out and was behind four cars with Gaz at the front Livo behind him then Ben I think. Anyway after Livo's disconnection the race was between Drew and myself. We were both on differnt strategies and I thought for a few laps mine was the slower of the two and I didnt have a shot at the win. I think Drew pitted around lap 19 from the lead so I predicted he was on primes till the end. I then had a thirteen second lead when I pitted for my final stint on fresh options on lap 22. I then knew he would regain the lead but was feeling pretty racey with fresh options. When I rejoined Drew was around 5 seconds up the road and he increased that to 6 seconds in the first half lap while I brought my tires up to temperature. I then turned my fuel up and set my sights on reeling him in. On my first attempt to pass after closing the gap we banged wheels so I backed off not wanting any dramas. Next lap I tried again in the same spot and made it stick which was cool. Good racing there Drew.... (we might be getting back to the old days of great wheel to wheel battles mate). Pretty stoked to get another win especially with zero practice. Sorry to Livo for his disconnect but even second I would have been stoked. Thanks for another good race guys. See you next week. Curry Munchers all the way ;D #Post#: 844-------------------------------------------------- Re: Race Reports - Abu Dhabi Grand Prix By: GAZZA_308 Date: February 22, 2012, 1:06 am --------------------------------------------------------- HTML http://youtu.be/iiJUTwz8XG8 PART 1 HTML http://youtu.be/MIau8gfWRd0 PART 2 HTML http://youtu.be/-Z3B8Y3CDEI PART 3 HTML http://youtu.be/4J9cC4yyGu8 PART 4 #Post#: 845-------------------------------------------------- Re: Race Reports - Abu Dhabi Grand Prix By: GAZZA_308 Date: February 22, 2012, 2:18 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Q-4th Had a pretty good qually seasion, could of found a little bit extra but tried conserving tires and plus cut a corner on a good lap. R-4th Got off to a good start, had plenty of pace, was right on Moss, he went to the outside at the 1st hairpin so I cut back inside, was a good move I thought because of the pace I had but unfortuanatly we made contact and Moss was swamped by oncoming cars, sorry Moss I thought I was through the corner, I was in 3rd position and chasing Ben and Striker who were going hard at each other for 1st position, which was good for me as I was making good ground on them, come the 3rd lap, I think, they made contact with each other at the 2nd chicane so I took advantage of this and found myself in 1st, wow haven't been there for a long time, my heart was beating faster and faster, I was in a good rhythm and was starting to pull away from Ben and Striker but I could see Livo coming fast, so I just kept my head down and and drove like the wind bulls eye, ha, pitted on lap 7 came out in good position and then the safety car was deployed, DAMIT, came past the pits to join the safety car and Livo pulled in behind me, all that work undone, restart the race and I was too close to the SC so I was auto braked before pit straight which gave Livo more momentum and he jumped me as I went wide on the first left hander, tried to stay with him but lost all of that rhythm I was talking about and made some more mistakes and found myself slipping back down the ladder, was all over Ben with Drew all over me, and then mistakenly followed Ben into the pits, reflex was to steer left back onto the straight but in doing so I nearly took out my team mate, sorry Drew, had to compose myself and try and finish the race without anymore mistakes, was not far back from the leaders so I drove steady hoping they would make the mistakes, ended up 4th after time adjustments, could of done better but happy with my result. Driver of the Day - Macca, no practice, no setup, good race and good win. Good race Camstubbs, hope you join us again. Cheers. #Post#: 846-------------------------------------------------- Re: Race Reports - Abu Dhabi Grand Prix By: GAZZA_308 Date: February 22, 2012, 2:21 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Curry Munchers all the way I believe it is Curry Muncher?
