So you only get one flying lap to set your time, and you can only choose from the quick setups. I quite liked it, and think it would make for interesting league racing. The engineer setups means that the people that don't have much time to work on custom setups don't get a disadvantage, and the one-shot quali will mix up the grid as the fastest drivers will sometimes make mistakes. e.g. I was behind going into the final sector at Hockenheim, but the leading car ran a bit wide collecting some gravel allowing me to get pole. And at Spa, I was leading the quali lap but made a big mistake at the end of sector 2, so ended up only 5th on the grid. Thoughts? #Post#: 2454-------------------------------------------------- Re: One-shot quali / Engineer setup By: drewdawg727 Date: December 1, 2012, 5:31 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Nah, let's leave it at the proper quali session. It might make things interesting but grid position is really deserved in my opinion and earned and it's not fair to just subject everyone to one lap. If you want to see a shaken up so grid, we might as well not quali and all and just go straight to the race with a random grid. #Post#: 2455-------------------------------------------------- Re: One-shot quali / Engineer setup By: livolay Date: December 1, 2012, 6:18 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Not a bad idea Supanash. I don't think many of us are spending any serious amount of time testing set-ups anymore. Would basically mean a more even playing field, could bring the field closer together & promote more overtaking at the start of races. Still plenty of time in the race to make up positions if you muck your lap up, it's not like were only doing 5 laps & a poor qualifying lap would kill your race result. #Post#: 2456-------------------------------------------------- Re: One-shot quali / Engineer setup By: supanash Date: December 1, 2012, 8:29 pm ---------------------------------------------------------
If you want to see a shaken up so grid, we might as well not quali and all and just go straight to the race with a random grid.
It wouldn't be a random grid though. You will still earn your position, but under different rules. And you'd be faced with a decision of whether to really push or go for a safer lap. We'll still see the faster drivers at the front in general unless they make a mistake. And remember, the quali is just one part of it. Maybe the bigger part is being restricted to the quick setups. #Post#: 2457-------------------------------------------------- Re: One-shot quali / Engineer setup By: macca9899 Date: December 2, 2012, 2:07 am --------------------------------------------------------- I think only being able to use the quick setup options would make the grid closer. I for one spend next to no time on setups and some races it's a guess for me or perhaps someone else kindly sends me theirs. I think setups are pretty important and if yours isn't right you can't trust the car or push at all in fear of loosing it. I'm not complaining that's just my lot I'm afraid and I don't have the time needed to work on setups. I think it's an interesting suggestion Nash. Maybe we could try a race using the one lap quali on a different night. Also a shame we have lost castrol, don't think he will change his mind this time. #Post#: 2458-------------------------------------------------- Re: One-shot quali / Engineer setup By: supanash Date: December 2, 2012, 4:34 am --------------------------------------------------------- Yeah, maybe we could try a couple of 25% races with 1-shot-quali another night. I suppose I'm just thinking about ways to make the league fairer for all and a bit more fun. I remember the 2010 game, when I used to be able to login almost any evening and find some of you guys online. I did zero practice and no work on setups but looked forward to racing without getting rammed off! Since we set up a league it has become more "professional" but maybe less fun. As for Castrol, I honestly don't know why he's so upset! The 2012 game is surely the best one so far. I've been playing offline more than online and really enjoy it. #Post#: 2459-------------------------------------------------- Re: One-shot quali / Engineer setup By: STRIKER Date: December 2, 2012, 10:43 am --------------------------------------------------------- I've had some races whith one-shot qualy last week and i also liked it! the only issue for me is the breaks setup on engeniar setup, but it defnitily makes the race closer and fun! #Post#: 2460-------------------------------------------------- Re: One-shot quali / Engineer setup By: GAZZA_308 Date: December 2, 2012, 2:44 pm --------------------------------------------------------- If everyone is happy to do "one shot qually" at china, then let's do it! 8) 8) 8)
Also a shame we have lost castrol, don't think he will change his mind this time.
Castrol has been unhappy with the game for a while now so it is no surprise to me, but on the other hand he was a lot of fun to race with and will be missed. :'( :'( #Post#: 2461-------------------------------------------------- Re: One-shot quali / Engineer setup By: drewdawg727 Date: December 2, 2012, 4:42 pm --------------------------------------------------------- I am still against it. Lets keep things the way they have been since the start, please. I take pride in the time I put in before the race to EARN a spot up higher on the grid, plus it's more realistic ... so therefore we should just keep it as 15 min qually. #Post#: 2462-------------------------------------------------- Re: One-shot quali / Engineer setup By: camstubbs86 Date: December 2, 2012, 8:40 pm --------------------------------------------------------- We don't even really kno who's fast yet? We've only had 2 gps. But if it's like last season then a tiered system using 2012 performance could be the go. I enjoy full quali. *****************************************************
