       First Time Yaoi Writer
By: Such A Fckn Lady Date: September 10, 2013, 9:10 pm

So I've never written Yaoi before, but I've got this plot bunny
for a Jakotsu/Inuyasha one shot smut fic.
But I'm not too sure how to go about it.
Anyone ever written yaoi before?? Care to give me any pointers??
       :D

[font=georgia]One thing I always notice is hetero writers (no
offense intended, just noting an observation) tend to stick to
the mentality that there's a "man" and a "woman" to every
relationship, a masculine and feminine personality, and I think
it's important for Yaoi/Yuri writers to understand that's not
always the case. Ukes don't need to be feminine and submissive,
semes don't need to be masculine and Dominant. Often times in
writings people undermine a character's personality to make them
seem "gay", and it's an unnecessary step. It's important to
remember that attraction doesn't have to be based on gender (I
actually don't think it should be, really) but rather on a much
deeper level than that, whether physical or otherwise. I think
so long as you remember each character's personality as they are
in the show, and keep them that way, you should be fine.
I'm not saying that's you, as I've never read your writing
before, simply a broad observation on my part.
Are you including smut in this, or no?

I was intending on writing a smut, actually. I know that I
typically like to flip who would be dominant and who would be
submissive. Say...if a person is in a situation that would make
a normal person submissive, I'd make their personality more
dominant, and vice versa. So that's what I was thinking when I
       thought of this.

Non-related but I am going to move this thread into a writing
discussion. I noticed that we do not have something like this so
A HEADS UP TO YOU LADIES THAT I'M PICKING UP YOUR TABLE AND
PUTTING IT IN ANOTHER CORNER I'M SORRY I LOVE YOU GUYS

[font=georgia]Hee~ Thank you lovey! I apologize I made you do
       some heavy-lifting!
As for the rest of this, dear, Dominant and submissive roles can
be affixed permanently or interchangeable, but my only word of
advice is just to make sure it's not forced. Not every character
is meant to be Dominant, and not every character should be
submissive; or a switch. Or I guess the role of the aggressor,
and the pursued, that sort of thing. I hope I don't sound like
I'm telling you what to do, I'm honestly not, simply offering my
own two cents on how I like to see characters portrayed when I'm
reading. Unless you're a supremely smooth writer, transitioning
someone who is incredibly Dominant into the role of the
submissive would be incredibly difficult, and somewhat jarring
       for a reader to envision.
Especially with smut, you don't want to do anything that will
break the mood you're working to create. Once the mood in smut
is broken, it's like a train with a busted wheel; you may get
where you're going but it's gonna be bumpy. And you never want
       that.

       Thank you for that!
I started writing and I made sure that once dominance was
established, I didn't do anything to...take away from that, I
guess you could say. I have another fic with yuri in it and the
roles are pretty much equal, so this is my first male/male and
the first time toying with dominance and submissiveness in a
       homosexual relationship.
       Thank you for the advice!!
