I loved that record, it had a sparkling arrangement and built to a climax. Why it wasn't a hit is beyond me. I can't remember if the song has ever made an appearance on CD. Does anyone know? I see on Discogs that the group had two albums scheduled; Devastating Affair Mountain, on MoWest MW105 in 1972; and The Devastating Affair on Motown M781 in 1973. I've seen several mentions that the group were highly regarded and that their recordings were something special, so it's a shame that they fell foul of that MoWest cull that seemed to cut short the Motown careers of some artists. For a long time now, I've been suggesting to Ace that they broaden their field of operations, Motown-wise, and look at the early Seventies. There must be some gems just waiting to be unearthed in them thar vaults. I saw them in concert, opening for Diana Ross, in 1973 I think. They were good too. A CD of their Mowest recordings would be very welcome...Cherry Red perhaps. #Post#: 174-------------------------------------------------- Re: A MoWest Marvel By: humboldt Date: October 27, 2019, 6:45 pm --------------------------------------------------------- 'That's How It Was (Right From The Start)' has never been issued on CD as far as I cam see. I've enjoyed all that I have heard by them Eric. I wonder what's in the vaults? Come on Ace etc check them out. #Post#: 241-------------------------------------------------- Re: A MoWest Marvel By: Silly Wasnt I Date: October 29, 2019, 3:21 am --------------------------------------------------------- The group's You Don't Know (How Hard It Is To Make It ) is one of several songs that had their backing tracks used on Disc-O-Tech, The Magic Disco Machine album. Wouldn't it be great if one of the re-issue labels put the Disc-O-Tech album on CD with the vocal versions as bonus tracks. The quality of those backing tracks is stunning. I'd love to hear the group's original version of Diana and Marvin's "You're A Special Part Of Me"on which the group did the backing vocals. Ivor #Post#: 424-------------------------------------------------- Re: A MoWest Marvel By: humboldt Date: November 3, 2019, 1:40 pm --------------------------------------------------------- So would I Ivor. Devastating Affair were another lost Motown act who deserved much better. Do you a list of recordings Ivor? #Post#: 437-------------------------------------------------- Re: A MoWest Marvel By: laserdk 2001 Date: November 4, 2019, 11:51 am --------------------------------------------------------- Unfortunately not John as I mislaid the list I did have, including the tracklist for their first album, sometime ago. I do recall these titles though:- You're A Special Part Of Me Trying to Kick the Habit Bittersweet I'm Back For More Don't Worry 'Bout My Love It's For You Strictly Business You might notice a trend with those songs in that group members Greg Wright and Harold Johnson went on to record them with other acts apart from the last one. Ivor [/quote] Presumably "Trying To Kick The Habit" is the song eventually released by The Finished Touch, and could "I'm Back For More" be the Al Johnson & Jean Carne/Leos Sunship/Tavares song? The group's discography at 45Cat has a few of tunes that aren't to be found in Ivor's list ... I don't suppose that a DA album will ever see the light of day. #Post#: 489-------------------------------------------------- Re: A MoWest Marvel By: laserdk 2001 Date: November 6, 2019, 12:04 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Roger, I'm sure those two songs are exactly what you say they are and aren't those songs listed on Discogs released tunes?
