       Tanks with Taunt
By: DarthMasterShawn Date: March 11, 2016, 7:06 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Ok so we have 4 tanks that taunt(No i'm not wasting time on
Stormtrooper) Only 3 are in anyway arena viable at higher level
of play. I will talk all 4 as I hope the one gets tweaked by
the Devs. We have the not so almighty anymore Poe Dameron, That
scruffy looking nerf herder Stormtrooper Han, The one I bashed
Red Death, Royal Guard, and the oversized walking carpet Chewy.
All have unique attributes. Some are more viable than others.
I'll start with the weak link Chewy.
Chewy- Poor chewy. On paper he has a good kit. Huge HP, self
heal, TM reduction on basic. Wonderful things. He is one of
the slowest characters in the game. At 100 speed maxed out his
taunt is useless in arena, and even in GW really, at least given
what I go against. Limited GW use. He also hits like a baby
       Ewok.
GW 2/5- Really you have taken damage by his taunt. His
viability is only to hold the line while you heal over time Via
Lumi heal or Barriss lead, get cooldowns lower. Really that is
       it. 2 may be generous.
PVP 0/5- I'm sorry but this is just how it is. Outside the top
couple hundred he may have some value, also on a new shard too,
however in later game play he simple has no arena value. By the
time he taunts you are not in good shape anyway. His taunt
could save your fight, but reality is at 100 speed it is far too
late. Many of my fights I barely see 2 turns each and the
slowest character I run is a Speed up 86.
Possible viability- Maybe just maybe on a DPS sustain team.
Something like Chewy lead, RG, and 3 fast, high DPS characters
that are not easily 1 shot killed. Rey is but could work. So
Chewy lead, RG, Rey, GS, and either 86 or FOTP, Maybe QGJ or 88.
This could work as RG activates under 50% health. Use Chewy
slow speed to taunt on his turn keeps your big guns alive to
destroy them. I'd advise 2 faster ones so do 2 of the 3 Rey,
       GS,QGJ, and then either FOTP,86,88....
If I did this I would do GS, QGJ, 86. Here is why. 86 is one
of the most consistent hitters. GS is GS, and QGJ has a great
kit, can buff, debuff. Also these guys call assists, so could
call each other, GS self buffs, 86 basic is big, QGJ TM on basic
so speeds him up, though they could call Chewy who reduces TM,
or RG who stuns. So a strategic DPS assist taunt team.
The flaw is RG and Chewy are 2 of the games weakest hitters so
you rely on RG activating and Chewy taunt to keep the other 3
alive. This is, as Chewy is now, the only way I see him viable.
How to fix Chewy- simple, make his taunt like RG. I think that
       would turn him instantly viable.
Stormtrooper Han-Here is a character that could be so good, yet
really is mediocre. His speed at 121 is slow, again late taunt,
but here is the kicker. He goes right before 3 very heavy
hitters in 86,88,FOTP. 86 and FOTP can 1 shot kill Han with his
measly 11,600 HP for a taunt, so all those great turn based and
damage based bonuses are for nothing. Only way 86 does not 1
shot Han is if he non crits on special and calls in a non buffed
phasma or QGJ or Single Dooku to assist, or calls a stunned
teammate to assist. On my build 86 is buffed by his 1st turn,
and 25% up all match by my lead, so he hits over 10k on that
special, so anyone going top assist finishes him. FOTP if he
       non crits won't.
GW-N/A I do not use him at all so I can't comment there. I
think overall taunters bring not a lot to the GW table
Arena 2.5-3/5- Only because of the potential I see in his kit in
human hands. Defensively I'd say .5-1/5 as he has not ever been
a factor at all for me.
He has a lot of potential builds so unlike chewy I won't give
       here.
How to improve him. I think a HP boost would do him good. Weak
HP for a 3 turn taunt. Guy is lucky to survive 3 hits, let
alone 3 turns. Or give him a huge Dodge rate.
Poe Dameron- Oh my what a fall from grace as arguable the best
character in game, he was at least the most game breaking. So
at 142 speed he lost his mojo in the new speed system. He is
still quite viable, but not that be all end all must have on a
DPS team anymore. His tenacity is lower, but still not easily
stunned. His expose is reduced, but still exposes. His TM
reduction can be resisted, but still works. He has decent but
not great HP. This is why I consider him the #2 tank in the
game. #2 taunt. He has a nice kit, ok damage, the fastest
taunt by a good bit, over 20 speed points superior to Han. All
in all he is solid. Rey is dead before he goes, so is 88. FOTP
usually is, 86 and GS are harder as they would take a couple
       shots first.
GW 1.5-2.5/5- I just don't feel taunters are real viable in GW.
They are not built for endurance. Poe though will give you a
win vs a brutal team. He can take a few shots, expose and
reduce TM giving you a chance. 2.5 is very generous.
Arena 3-4/5 He still has viability and is solid. When attacking
used right he is gold. Defensively he is fairly decent and can
create some trouble for any attacking, especially done right.
So I liked using him with Phasma. So much TM there. Done right
you can slaughter a team with their TM manipulation, however AI
will not know the trick. Defensively put Daka with him and some
punch and you have some power. Daka revives him at a decent
rate. I see him with her on my shard. In GW she has revived
him a few times for me. Everyone still says Poe on droid
builds. Yes I see the viability there so I agree. I however
will be not using him when I unleash my droid build. Poe also
is great with Leia. Here is why. You can fire with her first
turn instead of hiding her from any but AOE attack. Poe taunts
protecting her she can live longer.
How to improve. Well seeing as he was just toned down I don't
see the need to as speed is really how I'd improve him, maybe
some bigger damage, though he does hit harder than the others in
       this post already.
Royal Guard-Oh my my my how I do eat crow with Red Death. So I
posted awhile back when people were nerf everyone posting, to
make fun of them, add humor, ect, that RG was OP and needed to
be nerfed. This was before his/her tweak. No taunt, slow, bad
DPS, just a waste of space. Oh how the force has made me eat it
on that, lol. So RG is the epitome of what a tank should be.
Taunts when an ally goes below 50% Basic stuns. Huge HP.
Grants Defense up to allies, gains TM and HP when ally is
damaged. This is a tanks job, protect your team and RG does
       this to a T.
GW 2.5-3.5/5- See above my thoughts on tanks. However the heavy
HP, the HP gain, the stun, the way RG works makes this a viable
taunter that can run a bit.
Arena 4-4.5/5 RG makes you really have to plan your attacks
careful so not to activate that taunt allowing Rey, GS, or other
DPS characters to roll on you. Just a perfect tank to be
       honest.
So a comp I tested mine with(Mines only gear 7 4* so only just
shy 13k HP) Had RG with QGJ lead, 86,Dooku,GS. I also tried
Phasma lead same others, QGJ out, and a 3rd was Phasma lead QGJ
in Dooku out. The assists were nice RG called and often
stunned. It worked great, kept the characters alive longer as a
       tank should. Very viable.
How to make better. Honestly RG is the perfect tank. Maybe
increase DPS, or make stun 100%(though I think that could broach
OP status there and nerf calls would come)
So I hope this helps people. This is my opinion on them from,
using and/or facing them a lot.

Ok so in GW today I was bored and honestly Barriss, JC, and Lumi
had cooldowns left and I did not want to bust out Daka yet and
Talia I feared would die before her heal help so I decided to
say farewell(likely) to QGJ, Rey, and Yoda to test my MAKE CHEWY
RELEVANT build Idea where he was with RG. Here it is below.
       My team
       LVL 70
       QGJ lead 7* gear 8
       RG 4* gear 7
       Rey 5* gear 7
       Yoda 5* gear 7
       LVL 49 YES I SAID 49
       4* Chewy gear 6
My opponent all 7* LVL 70 gear 8, GS gear 9 though
       Phasma lead 7* gear 8
       Old Ben 7* gear 8
       FOTP 7* gear 8
       QGJ 7* gear 8
       GS 7* gear 9
Ok so on paper I am getting my ass kicked, then kicked a second
time as I am so far out classed it is not even funny
       OUTCLASSED BY
       10*
       6 gear levels
       23 Levels over 7K power
The fight begins with 10 standing and ends with only 2. Wow
awesome DMS you took out 3 of them. Thank you, but no, it was
me with 2 standing. WTF DMS how????
First action Yoda special on GS takes TM down
Second action Harmonous strike on FOTP, called yoda, near dead
3rd action Rey hits double hit on QGJ, he lives in yellow
4th action QGJ(Opp) Harmonous on my QGJ calls Ben, he lives,
       barely in red....RG ACTIVATES
       RG finishes off FOTP
       GS hits RG calls QGJ
       Phasma Victory march
       Ben Mind Tricks
       Yoda Basic on GS
       QGJ hits GS with Basic
Rey fails to finish GS but gaines Foresight
       GS Hits RG Crit
GS oddly fires again on Rey, dodged Foresight
Opp QGJ hits Chewy debuffing and killing gets Offense up
       Ben Basic on Yoda
       Phasma AOE kills QGJ
Yoda AOE takes Offense up and advantage kills opp QGJ
       GS kills RG
       Rey kills GS gains Foresight
We stand Yoda and Rey full health pretty much vs a full health
ben and mostly full health Phasma. I have a huge speed
       advantage.
Yoda crits on Phasma gains the dodge
Rey tripple hits Phasma to red
       Phasma shoots Rey, dodged
Yoda hits Ben with special, TM down
       Rey ends Phasma
       Yoda Pops Ben basic
       Rey pops Ben Basic
Ben goes after Yoda basic, dodged
       Yoda hits Ben again
Rey has double hit left, opted for Basic and killed Ben
Chewy and RG combined and took several hits. Chewy took 3 RG
took 4 or 5. This allowed my 3 faster characters with decent
DPS to whittle down their hard hitters that don't have high
       HP(GS excluded)
RG activated stopping QGJ from dying, Chewy used his taunt,
never lived for his 2nd turn but absorbed 3 hits.
Now had Chewy been Level 70 I imagine much better results. Had
RG been higher * same, or Rey or Yoda. Bottom line I went into
this fight thinking If I could kill FOTP and QGJ chip down GS
some and have Ben and Phasma blow VM and MT I would be a happy
camper. I never imagined I could win that, and so decisively.
This gave me a couple insights.
       1. Chewy with RG is pretty damn good, though bad DPS
       2. I really got to see Yoda shine and he was pretty solid. I
upped my opinion of him a good bit
       3. I got to see Rey shine as well. She hits good, any buffing
like a truck. She gets that foresight and gets a free pass on
an attack, so my thoughts on her improved.

Yeah, been thinking of getting that Royal Guard levelled up
since the bronze packs keep giving him to me lol. he's already
at 3 stars without farming him at all.
