I'm Jojo from the Philippines and I learned of this site from BLF. I've been a member of TFE for about a month now and I guess my introduction is a bit late. I hope this won't cost me my TFE membership because its good to be here. ;D #Post#: 1442-------------------------------------------------- Re: A Little Late By: MRsDNF Date: June 27, 2013, 6:36 am --------------------------------------------------------- Hi Nightbird95. Your not late. Thanks for joining us here. Feel free to post questions or join in on the friendly banter. What interest's do you have in flashlights? #Post#: 1444-------------------------------------------------- Re: A Little Late By: Nightbird95 Date: June 27, 2013, 6:56 am --------------------------------------------------------- I started collecting flashlights in January this year and I consider still myself a noob in this hobby. Most of my flashlights are however budget lights. Recently I tried to set my sights into modding when I won the 1000th post modding parts giveaway from RaceR86 in BLF but I'm still in the learning stage. Yes, I will be asking the expert opinions of the more experienced TFE members sooner or later. Thank you MRsDNF! :) #Post#: 1445-------------------------------------------------- Re: A Little Late By: MRsDNF Date: June 27, 2013, 7:20 am --------------------------------------------------------- In all honesty I'm a relative new to this passion as well. It all looked so daunting at the time and some things still do, but by asking what to others must of sounded like stupid questions and getting some very helpful answers the knowledge base grows. I still ask silly questions and theres still more l dont understand than understand. Its all a new challenge and the mind thrives on a challenge. If you need help or advice or think you can give us advice by all means join in. Theres lots off very clever people here to help us. #Post#: 1446-------------------------------------------------- Re: A Little Late By: Nightbird95 Date: June 27, 2013, 7:29 am --------------------------------------------------------- Yeah I think so too. There are very clever people here to help us. I'll keep you advise in mind. It may seem stupid to some but I will never learn if I won't ask. :) #Post#: 1451-------------------------------------------------- Re: A Little Late By: Spasmod Date: June 27, 2013, 8:27 am --------------------------------------------------------- Hi Nightbird95, Thanks for joining us here, it's great to see you. If there anything at all you're not sure about no matter how trivial you may think it is, please don't be afraid to ask. We're always more than willing to help. Thanks for joining in and congrats on winning those mod parts. You'll have to let us know which light you're thinking of modding, it would be great to see what you achieve! Spas #Post#: 1464-------------------------------------------------- Re: A Little Late By: JohnnyMac Date: June 27, 2013, 9:57 am --------------------------------------------------------- Happy to have you in the family, Nightbird95! We all aim to be as helpful as possible so feel free to ask away. It's great to know that someone who really could use those mod parts was the winner. Looking forward to seeing what you do with them now. :) #Post#: 1472-------------------------------------------------- Re: A Little Late By: Nightbird95 Date: June 27, 2013, 12:04 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Thank you Spasmod and JohnnyMac! For starters I'll be installing the the C8 XR-E and EAST 092 drivers to my 'Police' flashlights. From what I've read, the EAST 092s are driving the HD2010s. Too bad the 092 I got gives 1.8A only. I'll also be replacing the emitter of these lights because its using generic low output LEDs. I got an XP-E and 3 XR-Es in RaceR86's package. This will be the easiest to do because its basic soldering but since I'm not a savvy to modding yet, I'll be doing it this weekend to ensure that I have enough time. Right now I'm reading about LED reflowing and that's the next thing that I'll do. 3 bare XM-Ls and 3 16mm MPCBs are included in the package and I'll try relowing 1. It'll be very hard because I only have a soldering iron with me so I'll be following OL's guide in YouTube. If I still find it hard to do, I'll try using the electric stove. When I think I have enough skill, I'll be reflowing the other 2 in copper MPCBs which I ordered from Fasttech. I'll be using one to mod the SmallSun ZY-T08 which I have ordered from WallBuys earlier today. Included in RaceR86's package is a V10+ 4A driver and I'm going to install this to the ZT-T08 as well. I'm looking forward into turning the ZY-T08 into a very good thrower. I'll be installing the other XM-L in copper into one of my Convoy C8s. I have already upgraded its driver to 3.5A and I think adding 1 more 7135 chip won't hurt with the copper MPCB. Also included in the package are 3 strips of tiny resistors, 30 in all. I haven't tested their ratings yet but I'm planning to use them in modding my Sky Ray King and my K40. I'll try these mods only when I'm sure I know how to open the SRK and the K40 safely - and reassemble them also safely. I'll be doing a lot of research before I attempt to do it. This will be done last Also in the package is a 10 degree XM-L Optical lens. This will be perfect for the 2A 612 driver and the bare XM-L that I'll be reflowing to one of the 16mm MPCBs. I'm planning to make a 'bamboo' flashlight and using DBCstm's project as guide, I hope I can pull it off before OL's contest ends. I hope my plan is on the right track. :) #Post#: 1484-------------------------------------------------- Re: A Little Late By: JohnnyMac Date: June 27, 2013, 8:52 pm --------------------------------------------------------- It all sounds great, Jojo! You should be fine reflowing with just a soldering iron as long as it can put out a decent amount of wattage. I use my soldering iron to reflow my LEDs and it's extremely easy. #Post#: 1525-------------------------------------------------- Re: A Little Late By: Nightbird95 Date: June 30, 2013, 8:36 am --------------------------------------------------------- Good evening (its evening here)! I went ahead and did the reflowing of the LEDs first and JohnnyMac was right. Reflowing with a soldering iron is very easy. One of the XM-Ls was already dedomed and after reflowing it to a 16mm star, I loved its tint - a neutral white. Very similar to the tint of my Convoy C8 XML T6 3C. I tried using the C8's reflector and I loved it more - Its got a much smaller and much intense hot spot than the original XM-L T6 3C. I wanted to install it into one of my Convoy C8s (I have two). So I went ahead and removed the driver (already upgraded to 10 x 7135) and started working with the original LED & MPCB. The problem is that the MPCB is glued with fujic. What's the easiest and safest way to remove the MPCB w/c is attached to the pill by fujic glue? I tried to pry the MPCB out but when it did not move, I stopped. I'm afraid that I might damage a perfect LED in MPCB. I loved the tint of the T6 3C. A little help please? ;D ***************************************************** DIR Next Page
