"Get corrupted" is probably more accurate.

Judges/courts are supposed to be apolitical. They are supposed to look at the
law and apply them to the situation.  Since they are human, they have political
views, but they are supposed to keep them out of the courtroom.

But we've all seen the activist judges lately.  And even the Supreme Court has
"legislated from the bench".
