There was a fun little SciFi story I read a while back.
Basically, these slug-like alient came to Earth to take it over.  But they
weren't good at actual war, so they released a gas that killed 90% of the males
- because the slug-aliens thought that THEY were the agressive ones.

The slug-aliens landed to be met with hoards of pissed off women who had lost
their fathers, husbands and sons.

Long story short: it was a slaughter and only 25% of the aliens survived to
escape Earth.

So when we see what Erika is doing, you have to see it through the eyes of
someone who wants to eradicate the people who killed her husband.
