[2024-10-12] Open Scholastics ================ I am quite late to the party but I had so much fun listening to prof. Corey Stephan and his _Summa Tetraodontiae: Thomas Aquinas Explores OpenBSD's Medieval Orderliness_ talk he gave on BSDCan 2024. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uTBkdQpxZo Professor's thesis is that OpenBSD has distinct scholastic character. It strives for proper coding and orderly design providing simple tools for (almost) complete desktop and different types of server. While the talk title refers to our favourite Puffy fish someone suggested even more hilarious title _Summa Theo-logiae_. I guess not only OpenBSD users get the joke. Comparing description of medieval worldview with God on top of the pyramid, angels below, humans even more below, right above animals and other creatures, with OpenBSD development model with (again) Theo on top was also flawless. If you wanna spend an idle hour go for this video. For me it was a delight because I started to use OpenBSD during the same period I converted to Catholicism. I did not make the connection with scholasticism but it makes great sense to me. EOF
