The Human Species 

The human species gave to me 
the right to be mortal
to be civilized as my duty
the human consciousness
two eyes which never ever really worked right
a nose at my face's centre 
two feet two hands
my language 
the human species gave to me 
my father my mother
perhaps brothers that I don't know
tons of cousins aplenty
and some great-grandfathers 
the human species gave to me 
my three faculties
my will intelligence and my sensitivity
in moderation each of these 
the human species gave to me 
thirty-two teeth one heart one spleen
ten fingers and all between
what the human species gave me
I am satisfied just so
