I didn't like BG3 By Edward Willis (gopher://encw.xyz and http://encw.xyz) Published Feb/15/2025 Big fan of the original two games. Played them day in, day out, with and without mods, for years. I refunded BG3. I don't at all consider it to have been done right. BG3 feels very millennial fantasy: Gritty, immoral, and ugly. It's gross. There were evil party members in the earlier BGs, and tricky situations, but it never felt so morally misleading. It was made pretty clear in earlier games that the evil party members were selfish, nasty gits. BG1 and 2 were quick to punish evildoing, so while it was possible to play a morally gray character, playing an outright evil one would quickly lead to your death. BG3 often feels like a story about brave leader and his traveling band of morally dubious nymphomaniacs. BG2 had romance too, but it was tasteful, not explicit, and the characters were well written. Even Viconia's romance story lead her to a better place, morally. That said, I only played up to the end of the first chapter of the release version. I didn't feel that it would be right to play more of the game and then refund it, and I didn't want to leave my dollars in Larian's pocket. If later content and patches improve the game drastically maybe it would be worth a second look.
