One reason BSD is better than Linux By Edward Willis (http://encw.xyz and gopher://encw.xyz) Published Feb/1/2025 One thing I will absolutely give the BSDs, and one of the reasons why I use them, is that they don't tend to change major tools every few years. With Linux you're never done learning the darn thing because the people making it insist on replacing bits of it all the time. Most Linux distros no longer come default with netstat, ifconfig, or initramfs-tools. Just a small example. Now you get the pleasure of using ss, ip, and dracut. Having to learn about the new thing when they could have just extended the old thing is really tiresome. They couldn't? BSD does. Every Linux guy seems to want to be able to say to a prospective employer that he was the inventor of something. No one thinks about the coherence of the system or the stability of the user experience. What command was "not found" and frustrated you?
