I suppose that might be true..  I seem to remember Microsoft marketing it
similar to Java though - a common platform to allow the same software to run on
different operating systems.

That looks interesting..  I agree, it's cool what can be done with the CLR.

I am a little nervous about Microsoft making plans to prevent the Mono project
from contnuing.  I remember reading that a while ago, but I'm not sure if it is
true.

Microsoft has been developing software for other platforms - They currently
make MS Office for Mac, and they have made Internet Explorer for Mac too, but
they stopped when Apple released Safari.  I suppose they may prefer not to
spend the money on developing a .NET runtime for Mac.
