OK, I'll grant you that sometimes past experience gives a clue as to
what might prove helpful down the line as well... especially when it is
adding to accumulated knowledge....  :)

I suppose a better word might be usually rather than sometimes... ;) 
Once in a while things get accomplished serendipitously as well... <G> 
I'll agree that stubbornness/stick-to-itiveness is often a major factor
in final success....  :)
