Ah!  I changed the subject to 89 as that even makes it closer numerically 
speaking to what the subject was (is?).

That looks pretty good from what I just read about it online.  I think you'll 
want to add a pcie usb3 to it as I didn't notice any onboard usb3.  I recommend 
having at least one usb3 port for hot swapping drives.  Speaking for myself I 
have been spoiled by usb3 hotswapping drives and would insist that any future 
motherboard be usb3 capable.

E3-1200 series.  You should be getting 8 penguins on bootup given 2 threads per 
core.  :-)

A modern E3-1200 is on my wishlist although I might be persuaded to go with a 
16 core Atom if the opportunity presented itself today.

A tad overkill but since it came with the system what the heck.  I have 32gb 
ddr3 ecc ram on the server here which is likely what you have there.  ecc is 
worth the additional expense but next time I'd probably settle for 16gb.

Maybe 32gb on a 16 core cpu, especially if running multiple virtualized 
systems.

Not at the moment but I have had fun with virtualization in the past.  I'd 
probably be more tempted if I had the proper hardware to swap out to a 
virtualized subspace.  The HP and Xeon E3 ought to be ready willing and able to 
do proper hardware swapping.  Given what you now have a proper virtuallized 
network should be quite attractive I would think.
