Subj : at the pumps.. To : All From : August Abolins Date : Sun Jul 31 2022 18:37:00 It is peak season for the summer vacations/holidays here in Ontario. The Muskokas, Haliburton, and Algonquin areas are the destinations most people choose to escape to. This afternoon, Sunday Jul 31, I needed to fill up my vehicle with fuel and was surprised to find that the pumps at my usual stations were PRE-PAY inside only" or via valid credit card at the pump. Turns out that in the last two weekends alone, some assholes filled up their tanks and just drove-off. Apparently the police/court system is so time-consuming that the station owners found little recourse to react except to force pre- payment. The station owner said that they lost $6000 due to drive-offs. I settled with using my credit card (so that I had the privilege of having a variable fuel amount), but I still had to "go inside" to get my receipt. :( Paying at the pump has a rather annoying system. The machines are programmed to force you to pre-select a maximum $-figure for the fill-up. I wouldn't necessary know much extra I'd like to squeeze into the tank to declare that it's full. At the $100 option I was close. Mine came to $89 (for 47.9L). Someone else told me about their first experience with the pre- pay system, and ended up paying too much for the fuel. They did NOT get the difference in cash. Not sure how that is supposed to work. I forget whether they paid in cash or debit. -- ../|ug --- OpenXP 5.0.51 * Origin: Stare into this point intently ->.<- (1:153/757.21) .
