Native French speakers always laugh when I speak to them, though! MM>That would seem to jive with various things I've heard about Quebec being int >rant to non-French speaking people, even when it's their own countrymen. I'm Canadian in spite of the possible tag line and it's a bit of a joke here how the French are against non-French speakers. We are (were?) pretty much forced to take French in school in the non-French provinces and I took it for 4 years. That doesn't do much for you in Quebec though since the French they teach us in School is 'Paris' French, not Quebecois French. I have a few French Canadian relatives so I know quite a bit of the slang and how to swear 'properly' so I maybe can fit in a bit better. As I understand it though the French people in France are almost as bad about non-French speakers so it may be cultural, although there they are not too crazy about Quebecois French either. I think to them it would be like Cockney English to the more Educated people in Britain..
