 Musk isn't an altruist by any means - his past record reflects that.
 The areas he's cutting all seem to reflect personal benefit by
 hamstringing investigations into his companies rather than any overall
 cost-cutting benefit.

 You'd think Musk would have volunteered cost-cutting in some of his
 contracts and subsidies as an example - if he had, he would have
 radically throttled any scrutiny of his actions and appeared less
 driven by personal benefit.
