Subj : yogurt To : Dale Shipp From : Ruth Haffly Date : Sat Aug 13 2022 15:07:04 Hi Dale, RH> Years ago we used to make our own yogurt, actually as recently as when RH> we lived in HI, in the early 2000s. Then a lot of the jar lids RH> couple of jars into muslin, tie it onto a cupboard door handle and set RH> a bowl underneath to let it drain for several hours, making my own RH> greek yogurt of yogurt "cream cheese". DS> Do the two of you still make your own keefir? Not that often any more as we don't usually buy real milk any more. We've been buying/using almond milk for a lot of things but if Ineed real milk, I'll use dry, either instant or non instant, depending on what I'm making. If I need more than a cup, however, I'll buy a quart and use it up in other things. We made another 4 jars (plus taster) of fig preserves this week. This batch is a bit sweeter than the first; I weighed a bowl to tare it, then dumped in the amount of sugar for the weight of the figs and bowl combined. It's only about half a cup more sugar so not that much sweeter. I made an Okracoke fig cake (It uses fig preserves; I used a jar of commercial ones we had on hand.) today for dessert for our small group at church tomorrow. It called for half a cup of buttermilk in the cake, another half cup in the glaze. I bought a quart (smallest size Wegman's had) so I guess it's time for buttermilk biscuits, pancakes, etc. (G) --- Catch you later, Ruth rchaffly{at}earthlink{dot}net FIDO 1:396/45.28 ....
