Subj : My kitchen projects To : ALL From : JIM WELLER Date : Sat Sep 03 2022 19:53:00 Last night it went down to 45 F and the forecast is for lows of 41 along with clouds and rain next week so Roslind picked the last of the lettuce today while it was still sunny and nice out and started harvesting and drying the herbs she couldn't easily move indoors. She also picked and dried some raspberry bush leaves, which is now going to get added to tea and herbal tisanes occasionally. We have a massive amount of summer savory which is especially nice as it is hard to find in supermarkets. Loblaws does not carry it and the Co-Op just special orders it from a grower in Newfoundland (Mt. Scio Farms) once a year just before Thanksgiving but I like to use lots of it all year round, and not just put it in turkey stuffing twice a year. I had purchased some nice one inch thick T-Bone pork chops and was planning to grill them this Labour Day weekend and make potato salad to go with but it looks like rain both Sunday and Monday so plan B is a German skillet dinner: pan fried pork chops (a quick sear and then an oven finish to done just medium), country fried potatoes in lard (I still have lots from the last pork shoulder we roasted) with onion, celery, some banana peppers and of course lots of savory. The side dishes will be chunky, spiced, stewed apples (not apple sauce) and sauerkraut. What's everyone else doing this holiday weekend? Cheers Jim ....
