10 March 1831 - FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION IS FOUNDED: France's King Louis
Philippe establishes a new military unit that he hopes will corral
mercenaries and misbehavers, attract foreign fighters, and bolster his
North African colonial expansion.

The French Foreign Legion is a corps of the French Army that consists of
several specialties: infantry, cavalry, engineers, airborne troops. It
was created in 1831 to allow foreign nationals into the French Army. It
formed part of the Armée d’Afrique, the French Army's units associated
with France's colonial project in Africa, until the end of the Algerian
war in 1962.

  1 1/2 oz Aged rum
    1/2 oz Dubonnet
    1/2 oz Aperol
    1/8 oz Dark cacao liqueur
    1/2 oz Manzanilla sherry
      1    Dash rhubarb bitters
      1    Strip lemon zest
           Ice cubes

  Fill a rocks glass to the top with ice cubes

  Pour manzanilla sherry, Aperol, Dubonnet, dark cacao
  liqueur and aged rum into a mixing glass.

  Add 1 dash of rhubarb bitters.

  Fill the glass with ice cubes and stir gently.

  Strain into the rocks glass.

  Garnish with lemon zest.

  Guzzle.
