I /think/ one layer was salman > but I can't be sure. There are different kinds. Some people put multiple layers of various spreads between layers of thin sliced bread. There are other what I would call tiny sammaches where they take a roll of "bread," smear something on it, then roll it up and cut it into round pieces. Those, IIRC, usually only have one layer of filling, though. The green layer, if there was one, may have been made from watercress or cucumber. IIRC, my mom used to like making a salad or spread out of cucumber. If they were being made locally, one layer might be pimento cheese. I am guessing the contents of the layers would be up to the preferences of the preparer, so a salmon spread would also be a candidate.
