Later they came out with a single stick air-shift 4 X 4 transmission that was much easier on the nerves. My favourite box in a semi was the thirteen speed. My grandmother and stick shifts were never good friends. Granddad always bought standard transmission V8 Ford sedans. She would rev the motor and side-step the clutch, chirping the tires or throwing gravel until the car was going about 15 MPH. Then straight into high gear - never to come out of that gear until she came to a complete stop. Riding with her was very grating on my sensibilities. Best thing ever happened to her driving was getting a car with an automatic shift after Granddad had passed.
