Subj : 4/23 English Muffin Day 3 To : Don Vally From : Ruth Haffly Date : Thu May 01 2025 11:22:03 Hi Don, RH> I wouldn't say super smart, just, having made a good number of quilts, RH> I've conquered the basics of calculating number and width of strips to RH> cut, sub cuts needed, etc. I've been sewing since I was 7 years old, RH> so for decades now (won't say how many-G-), taught it on a one to one RH> basis different times & places and made anything from curtains to a RH> wedding gown (plus the dresses for the rest of the party) to a 3 piece RH> suit for my husband and projects in between. DV> You sound 'quite' accomplished at sewing! As I mentioned, I 'might' DV> be able to get a button sewed on, but that's the extent of my skills. Practice makes perfect. I asked my parents for a sewing machine as a wedding present, choice of that or a double Wedding Ring quilt. The machine (and its successors) have had a lot of use, including making a DWR quilt for us, some years later. One year I had to make our older daughter's and a friend of hers, dresses for their performance choir. I asked our daughter if her friend (or mom) could sew on a button. She reported back that neither of them could; I made sure our girls had basic sewing skills before they left home. BTW, my mom did not make the original DWR quilt offered; mom knit but she could hardly sew a button on. RH> I'm taking a break from sewing today--made a strawberry pie this RH> morning and will do a batch of strawberry-rhubarb preserves this RH> afternoon. It's fresh strawberry season in NC and my husband brought RH> home 4 boxes from the local farmer's market on Saturday. They have to RH> be used quickly or will go bad so now we're down to about 1/2 a RH> box--just right for nibbles over the next few days. DV> OK - Strawberry rhubarb preserves, I'm coming to your house for DV> lunch! ;) You'll probably catch us out running a few last minute errands or finishing the camper loading. By the way, welcome to the kitchen table. It's smaller than it used to be, but still lots of good food ideas, recipies, restaurant reviews, etc are exchanged. Where's home; we're in NC, near Raleigh. DV> I love strawbery rhubarb pies. They are my downfall. I did make some DV> strawberry brownies, but used a strawberry cake mix and used the DV> berries on top! They weren't bad for someone who can't cook or sew.. Hey, a cake mix is a good way to start cooking. I grew up making cakes from scratch and still do, most of the time. For years (decades, actually) I made our bread--100% whole wheat--but have pretty much stopped that. Too many other irons in the fire. (G) DV> Have a great day Ruth! And you, also. --- Catch you later, Ruth rchaffly{at}earthlink{dot}net FIDO 1:396/45.28 .... There cannot be a crisis today; my schedule is already full. --- PPoint 3.01 * Origin: Sew!
